For this drawing i took inspiration from a legend, the legend of the Sibyl on the Sibillini mountains in the Appennines.
According to legend, in the bowels of Mount Sybil lies an enchanted kingdom that could only be reached through a narrow cave.
It is a world populated by wonderful creatures that for one day a week turn into fearsome monsters.
The Sibyl magical kingdom was concealed beneath the mountain-top.
Lavish palaces, untold riches, and eternal youth were to be found beyond the cave's entrance.
An ancient legend tells of a virgin prophetess who was condemned by God to remain in the bowels of the mountain until the end of time…
For hundreds of years, the cavern, widely known throughout Europe and depicted even in the oldest geographical maps, has been at the center of endless interest and attention.
Traditionally the Sybil was a female figure linked to mysterious pagan rites, which was able to read the future and see the past and she would live in the mountains that were named after her.
She was an oracle to be consulted about the future and entrusted with one’s troubles and doubts,
as has been recounted in novels since the fifteenth century.
